Athletes with Disabilities Network operates the No Limits Mentoring Program that connects its network to individuals or groups who are seeking inspiration and motivation. The goal of the program is to introduce personal stories of success, and discuss the role that sporting opportunities plays in all aspects of their lives.
Using sports as a catalyst for conversation and engagement, we provide funding and support for community outreach and educational programs focusing the abilities of individuals with disabilities. Our organization reaches out to elementary and high school students to teach disability awareness and introduce a variety of adaptive sports.
Loan Closet and Trailer
Our portable display and travel trailer (with sports wheelchairs and hand cycles) are on loan so young people can play and experience games. In conjunction with the Michigan Thunderbirds Wheelchair Basketball Team and Pickup Hoops, we can also provide a portable basketball venue and game demonstration for interested groups. Hospitals, agencies and other organizations request our demonstrations and interactive events. We also participate in local parades and community events.
MSU Basketball Class
The ADN Michigan State University Basketball Class is a course designed to be open to all undergraduate college students regardless of physical ability. Students are exposed to wheelchair sports and hand cycling, and are offered knowledge of game play for competitive basketball while in a sports wheelchair. Depending on availability of space, time and equipment, any of the following special opportunities will be offered: interactive games with players from an actual wheelchair basketball team, and opportunities to play other adapted sports such as golf, soccer, and tennis.
This course is an ideal experience to enhance careers in teacher education, medicine, physical therapy, occupational or recreational therapy and psychology as well as affording all students a greater awareness and understanding of life with physical disabilities.
